Cultivate Canada

The mission of Cultivate Canada is to demonstrate and interpret the vital connections between faming, land stewardship, and community well-being; to model the economic and social possibilities for small and medium scale urban and rural agricultural and forestry projects; to address disparities in access to healthy food and the knowledge to produce it; and to nurture the human spirit through public programs, classes, and events.

Sole Food Street Farms (Sole Food) is a social enterprise wholly owned by the registered charity Cultivate Canada. Established in 2009, Sole Food transforms vacant urban land into productive agricultural landscapes and has grown to become one of North America’s largest urban farms, producing over 25 tons of fresh food annually.

Guided by Cultivate Canada’s mission, Sole Food empowers individuals with limited resources by providing jobs, agricultural training, and inclusion in a supportive community of farmers and food lovers. Our mandate is to hire residents of Vancouver’s inner city facing complex barriers to employment such as addiction, poverty, housing insecurity/homelessness, and mental health challenges.
